We certainly got more than we expected with our November program, presented by Suzy Seed of Sulky Threads. We expected a wonderful trunk show full of all kinds of embellished items and we weren’t disappointed. There were quilts of all kinds and sizes embellished in every thread made by Sulky and using more techniques than anyone could imagine. Suzy brought an entire rack of quilted garments using different threads and thread techniques. We were surprised by the giant needle she brought and delighted by the tips she shared on choosing the appropriate needle for the thread you want to use. You just never know what you’re going to get from a CVQG presentation!
Riding in from Dallas on her white horse, Guild member Judith Stone presented a wonderful program on rag quilts. Our October program was to have been Susan Cranshaw but the flu bug had different plans for her. Judith received a whopping 24 hours to prepare and did a spectacular job. She showed us step-by-step how to assemble a rag quilt and provided a trunk show with many examples making rag quilts with different types of fabrics. Thanks go to all the CVQG members who brought in their rag quilts to share. Special thanks go to Kay Marburger for making all the arrangements. What a remarkable group of quilters we have in our guild.
In September, quilt artist Alice Wilhoit shared a trunk show of her amazing quilts. She recounted her journey as a quilter, from its beginning as a way to get away from her recently retired husband to the successful pattern business she's been able to create. Each step along the way was illustrated with her beautiful applique and humorous tales.

Dot Collins, of Port Neches, TX, spoke at the August meeting on How to Choose Colors for Your Quilt. Dot brought a large collection of her personal quilts and explained the color choices used in the quilts.
Big, Bold Baskets was the workshop that she conducted which taught the use of stripes in the design, broderie perse, and strip-piecing triangles for borders.
Jo Adams shares her collection of antique quilts and blocks at the July meeting of the CVQG. She admits she has a weakness for quilts with old-fashioned ladies on them.
Lynn Roddy Brown, Houston,. TX, shared her "Strategies for Scrap Quilts" with the guild at their June meeting. She has been quilting seriously for over 20 years and is a member of a bee that trades blocks for scrap quilts. Lynn loves scrap quilts because they give her an opportunity to use many different fabrics in one quilt. Lynn is the author of "Simple Strategies for Scrap Quilts" and "Simple Strategies for Block Swap Quilts". Below, Lynn (right) just finished autographing her books for Minnie Parker(left)at the meeting.
Lynn conducted an all day workshop, The Texas Two-Step Lap Quilt, which featured a scrap happy design. She collected blocks from each of the 20 participants as they completed them and arranged these blocks on a design wall to show how all the blocks fit together to make a scrap quilt.
